- Delivery apps want a Greek number. If you are visiting without a local SIM, ordering by phone or asking the hotel to place the order is often quicker than fighting a signup form.
- Give the floor and the buzzer name. Athens apartment blocks are notoriously hard to find from a street number alone, and a rider who cannot get in will call. Repeatedly.
- Cash still works everywhere. Card at the door is common now but not universal. Having notes avoids a conversation in the corridor.
Deliveries to a hotel room
Most Athens hotels are entirely relaxed about food arriving for a guest. The practical mechanics differ by size: in larger properties the rider is stopped at the entrance and reception calls the room, so you go down to collect. In smaller hotels and apartment-style stays the rider often comes up. Either way, the discreet move is to order before your companion arrives or shortly after, rather than in the middle of the evening, so there is one interruption instead of two.
If a property has a formal visitor policy, it applies to guests and not to deliveries, and neither is unusual enough to attract attention. Staff in central Athens hotels have seen everything and are professionally uninterested.
Choosing who to spend the evening with
For a relaxed evening at home the deciding factor is conversation, not appearance. If you are set on a brunette, that is easy. Water is the one people forget; a hotel minibar holds two small bottles and three hours is longer than that. Beyond that, think about the temperature and the lighting rather than anything elaborate. Athens rooms in summer are usually set far too cold by housekeeping, and a single lamp instead of the overhead fixture makes more difference to how an evening feels than anything you could buy. If you want music, sort it out before your companion arrives rather than spending the opening stretch of the booking pairing a speaker to a phone.
