Buying adult toys in Athens: where to look and what to buy
Athens has a small but perfectly adequate adult retail scene, concentrated in a handful of central streets rather than spread across the city. If you want to buy in person, the practical answer is the commercial grid between Omonia and Monastiraki and a few addresses along the larger avenues running out of the centre; if you would rather not walk into a shop at all, Greek online retailers ship anywhere in Attica within a day or two in plain packaging. Both routes get you the same products, and the choice is mostly about how you prefer to shop.
This page exists because clients ask us about it often enough to be worth answering properly. We do not sell anything, and we have no affiliation with any retailer, so what follows is simply what we have learned is useful to know.
In person or online
Walking into a shop has one genuine advantage: you can feel the material. Photographs online are unreliable about firmness, weight, and finish, and those three things determine whether something gets used twice or never again. Central Athens shops are used to browsers, staff are matter-of-fact rather than intrusive, and most keep long hours including evenings.
Ordering online has the advantages of range and privacy. Greek retailers carry the same European brands as physical stores, ship discreetly with no external branding, and offer far more choice than a single shop floor can hold. If you are visiting Athens for a few days, delivery to a hotel is usually straightforward, although it is worth checking that the front desk accepts parcels for guests before ordering.
What to look for, and what to avoid
Material is the only specification that really matters, and it is the one most product descriptions bury. Body-safe materials are non-porous, meaning they can be cleaned thoroughly rather than superficially:
- Medical grade silicone: the default good choice. Non-porous, durable, and easy to sanitise.
- ABS plastic: hard, hygienic, and common in the mechanism housings of powered items.
- Borosilicate glass: entirely non-porous, holds temperature, and is far stronger than it looks.
- Stainless steel: heavy, permanent, and the easiest of all to clean.
- Porous soft materials sold as jelly, PVC, or simply unlabelled: these absorb and hold residue no matter how carefully you wash them. Avoid them.
Two smaller points that save people money. Anything intended for internal use should have a flared base or a retrieval loop; this is a safety feature and not a design flourish. And silicone lubricant degrades silicone toys, so pair silicone products with a water-based lubricant. Both facts are widely ignored and both cause avoidable problems.
Cleaning, storage, and shelf life
Warm water and unscented soap immediately after use handles almost everything. Non-porous items without electronics can be cleaned more thoroughly still; anything with a motor should never be submerged unless it is explicitly rated as waterproof. Dry completely before storing, because trapped moisture is the actual problem rather than the item itself.
Store pieces separately rather than in a drawer together. Some silicones react badly to prolonged contact with other silicones and can develop a permanently tacky surface, which is the single most common way a good item is ruined. A cloth bag per piece solves it entirely. Rechargeable products, meanwhile, hold their charge poorly if left flat for months, so a top-up every so often extends their life considerably.
Bringing them to a booking
Clients sometimes want to include their own items in a booking, and the rules around that are simple and firm. Ask when you make the arrangement, never on arrival. Some of our companions are entirely comfortable with it, others prefer not to, and that is their decision to make without needing to justify it.
If it is agreed, anything you bring should be new or thoroughly cleaned, and personal items are never shared between people. Nothing that restricts breathing, circulation, or movement is used without an explicit prior conversation, and nothing at all is used on anybody who has not agreed to it in that specific meeting. A companion may also change her mind partway through, and that decision is final.
A note on discretion when travelling
If you are flying, keep items in checked baggage where practical, remove batteries from anything that can switch itself on, and expect that hand luggage may be inspected. None of this is illegal or unusual, but the five minutes it saves at a security desk is worth the thirty seconds of packing. Hotel housekeeping in Athens is professional and unbothered, though most guests still prefer to keep such things in a case rather than in view.
